Merpug Prototype v4 Updates
I've had a few people ask me about the process of working with a plush toy manufacturer. This is my first time experiencing any of this since I've always made my own plush designs, but I've already learned some things that might be helpful for anyone interested in this process:
- Patience. I am fortunate to be working with a wonderful company- Shinedown Productions. I've heard some nightmare stories about other companies, so I'm very grateful for Shinedown thus far. Whoever you choose to take this journey with, be prepared for a very long, slow process no matter what. They're working on 100's, if not 1,000's, of other projects. I personally think that Shinedown sends me new prototypes very quickly compared to some others I've learned about. But the thing is, I'm not looking for speed of any sort. I would rather them take the time they need and send me a quality product than rush through it.
- Determination/Persistence. Since this is my first time trying this, I'm not sure if things get lost in translation or what, but you really have to push the manufacturer to get your design right. I'm currently on my fourth prototype going into my fifth. Merpug has a lot of elements to it; since I've made the plush myself for years I know exactly how complex the design is. But I also know that everything I'm asking for is 100% achievable. Keep pushing forward until the design is how you want it, or you'll regret it. These words of advice were given to me by Holly and Nancy of Kimchi Kawaii and Lucky Squid Studios. They helped me so much, since I was becoming downhearted about the process. I've always been overly sensitive about my artwork, since I really pour my heart and soul into everything I create. I also struggle with being assertive, since I'm naturally quiet and very introverted. If you're the same way, just keep a positive attitude and keep going! "Just keep swimming" (^-^)/
I hope those "behind the scenes emotions" help you out if you're currently in the process or thinking about trying it out!
Merpug Prototype v4
My fourth Merpug prototype has several improvements. I absolutely love the tail and fin! It's so adorable, and I was totally gushing over it when I saw the pictures. The eyes and ears are now how I want them! Yay! The overall body shape, snout, and paws still need improvements, though. Here are the notes I sent today:[gallery link="file" ids="3251,3252,3253"]
The Merpug Plush Kickstarter
Once the prototype is finalized, I will make an announcement for the launch date of the Kickstarter. The Merpug plush Kickstarter will only last for 30 days, so Merpug will need all of your love and support to exist! There are several ways to help this happen:
- Donate through the Kickstarter. Any amount, large or small, helps so much! It all adds up!
- Share the Merpug plush Kickstarter link on any of your social media pages. This could be through Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Tumblr, etc. Even if you can’t afford to make a donation, spreading the word to your friends and family is absolutely invaluable!
- Word of mouth. If you have a friend who loves pugs (or mermaids!) be sure to tell them about Merpug(^-^) You can also text them the Kickstarter link with your smartphone! Kickstarter is mobile-friendly, and I’ve backed several of them straight from my phone!
Thank you for stopping by to read more about Merpug! The Merpug plush is on its way to being perfectly adorable!
